Thread Protection, Every Male Thread of Reducing Adapters Arrives Ready to Use
Here is a problem we see too often.
You order reducing adapters. They arrive after two weeks. You open the box. Some threads are dented. Some are scratched. One has a burr that should not be there.
Now what? You either use them anyway and hope they seal. Or you send them back and wait another two weeks.
We put plastic caps on every male thread of reducing adapters. Every single one. Before they go into the box. Before they go on the truck.
The caps take the hits. The threads stay clean. No dents. No scratches. No burrs.
When you open the box, your reducing adapters are ready to install. No inspection needed. No returns.

How do I install a reducing adapter correctly?
Step 1
It is wise to first clean both parts’ threads of any debris, old sealant, etc. (after disassembly if necessary).
Step 2
For NPT or BSPT connections apply Teflon tape or pipe thread sealant to the threads. For BSPP connections use a sealing washer or O-ring.
Step 3
Tighten reducing adapter by hand in the correct orientation to prevent cross-threading.
Step 4
Tighten up the reducing adapter using the correct wrench, be very aware not to over tighten as this can cause severe damage to the reducing adapter as well as to the nearby pipe work and instruments.
Step 5
Pressure tests the connection. Check for leaks.
One more thing
Make sure the tape does not enter the pipe. The liquid tape can clog valves and other instruments.
