What is a 6,000 psi Needle Valve?

This is a игольчатый клапан высокого давления rated up to 6000 psi, or about 414 bar,  or 41.4 MPa.

You use this when your machine is running above 3,000 psi but you are not trying to reach 10,000 psi.

You will notice that our 6000 psi valves have thicker walls, stronger threads, better quality parts than you may find in an “ordinary” valve. Our high-pressure valves are equipped with a non-rotating stem tip.

Working Pressure: 6,000 psi (414 bar/41.4 MPa)

Size range: 1/8″ to 1″

Body material: SS316, SS304

Stem tip: Non-rotating (standard)

Packing: PTFE (standard, to 200°C), Graphite (optional, to 450°C)

Connection types: Compression, NPT, BSP, flange, socket weld

The 6,000 Psi Rating, Why Not 3,000 or 10,000?

The 6,000 Psi Rating, Why Not 3,000 or 10,000?

3,000 psi valves are everywhere. They work fine for general industrial stuff: pneumatics, low pressure hydraulics, water lines. But put one on a wellhead panel or a chemical injection skid, and you’re gambling.

10,000 psi valves exist. They’re built like tanks. But they cost more, and they’re heavier. If your system only runs at 5,500 psi, you don’t need a 10,000 psi valve. You’re paying for extra margin you’ll never use.

6,000 psi is the middle ground. High enough for oil and gas applications. Lower cost than 10,000 psi. Lighter weight. Easier to install. For most wellhead panels and hydraulic power units, it’s the right fit.

We offer all three ratings. We’ll tell you which one you actually need.

Three Certificates in the Box, No Chasing, No Waiting

Our customers have some horror stories about this sort of thing. Suppliers that charge for certificates, Suppliers that take six weeks to send you a certificate, Suppliers that never send you a certificate. That’s why we just include them in the price.

That’s not how we work.

Every 6,000 psi needle valve that we ship is accompanied by three documents.

Material Test Certificate (MTC): for every component, its chemistry and mechanical properties are documented. The heat number allows tracing back to the mill.

Hydrostatic Test Certificate: This Certificate provides the Pressure Test that we performed on the body. This Pressure is typically 1.5 times the Working Pressure for steam or air valves. For a 6,000 psi needle valve, the test environment is 9,000 psi.

Seal Test Report: Pass/Fail on both seat seal and packing seal. Seal test is performed on all valves before they are shipped.

Everything is in the box. No “available upon request” components. No wait for items that are supposed to be included to arrive in the mail.

Drawing Approval

Drawing Approval: You Say Yes, Then We Build

Common Problem: Someone orders a 6000 psi needle valve which takes three weeks to arrive. However, the threads are incorrect for the application, the overall length is off by half an inch, or the port orientation is backwards.

They will have to wait an additional three weeks for replacement or they must modify the present design.

Alas, this isn’t achieved. However, the fix is very simple: we provide a dimensional part print of the valve after the order is placed, you check the thread, overall length and port sizes. Once you approve, we begin production.

Having flanges redrew is an extra day or two of work, but it is far better than having to wait weeks for a valve that will not fit.

Forged Body, Why It Can Take 6,000 Psi

The valve body can be made in two methods, casting or forging.

Cast valves are poured into a mould whilst the product is in its molten state. They are less expensive than forged valves, however, small air spaces or air pockets can become trapped within the product, although at low pressure these are of little consequence. As the pressure increases, these weak points can begin to cause cracks in the cast valve.

Forged valves are different from cast valves on the market. They are made from solid steel that has been heated and hammered into shape (forged). When you forge steel, the grain structure of the steel is compressed and lined up resulting in no air pockets or weak points in the valve body.

Therefore, our 6,000 psi needle valves use forged bodies, which have a tight grain structure that allows it to handle high pressures without failure.

A common practice of many suppliers is to fit a cast body valve and call it “high pressure”. These items may hold for a short period but we have found them to fail at as little as 5,000 psi.

At 6000 psi, don’t go with a cast body. Try our forged body.

Forged body
Q1. Can I mount the 6000 psi needle valve on a panel?

Yes. The 6000 psi needle valve body has threads for a panel mounting nut. You put the valve through the panel, put the nut on from the front, and tighten. The handle stays on the front, the plumbing is behind.

Q2. Do I need a non-rotating stem tip for the 6000 psi needle valve?

If you open and close the 6000 psi needle valve every day, yes. A regular tip spins against the seat and wears it out. The non-rotating tip goes straight up and down. No grinding. The seat lasts 5 to 10 times longer. We put it on all our 6,000 psi valves. Standard.

Q3. What temperature can a 6000 psi needle valve handle?

PTFE packing: up to 200°C (400°F). Graphite packing: up to 450°C (850°F). The metal body can take more, but the packing is the limit.

Q4. Fluid is leaking out around the 6000 psi needle valve handle. What do I do

Tighten the packing nut a little,  about 1/8 of a turn. That usually stops it. Don’t crank it down hard. The stem still needs to turn. If it still leaks after half a turn, the packing may need replacement.

Q5. Does the 6000 psi needle valve have a flow direction?

Yes. Most have an arrow on the body. Install it backwards and two things happen: it’s harder to turn, and high-velocity fluid hits the seat directly and wears it out fast. Follow the arrow.

Q6. What is your MOQ?

10 pieces per size. You don’t need to buy 100 6000 psi needle valves to find out if we’re any good.
