Refer to the recommended wrap count above: 2–3 wraps for thick tape, and up to 5 wraps for thin tape.

Over-Tightening: Overdo it with the wrench and you can crack the fitting, strip threads, or warp the connection. PTFE tape makes this easier because it lubricates—turns feel so smooth you won’t notice until it’s too late. Follow the recommended turns for your size (usually 1.5 to 3 past hand-tight). If it still leaks, don’t just crank it more. Take it apart, clean it, and reseal properly.

Under-Tightening: Being too gentle can leave the threads loose. Tapered threads need to be driven in far enough to wedge together and actually seal. Follow the turn specs—stopping short will just give you a slow drip.

Not Cleaning Threads First: Sealant won’t stick to dirty, oily, or rusty threads.
